Illinois Art Education Association Conference 2010

November 4 – 6, 2010

Hilton Hotel
Lisle, Illinois

“Artistic FusionIntegrating the Visual Arts into the Classroom, Community and our Lives”

The 2010 IAEA conference will return to the Hilton Hotel in November. The deadline to submit a proposal to present a session or workshop for the conference is March 15, 2010. The proposal can be accessed on this conference page on the right side column. Please note that the deadline is a little earlier than in 2009 to facilitate getting the registration materials ready to distribute in a timely manner. We will again offer on line registration, and we are working to refine the registration process. More information about the registration process will appear in the spring issue of The Mosaic. You can also receive up to date conference information by subscribing to the IAEA electronic newsletter, “Bits and Pieces”, which is available without charge to current IAEA members as a benefit of membership. If you are not currently a subscriber, please contact B&P editor Tricia Fuglestad at: fuglefun@gmail.com.

In addition to the popular conference events such as the Student Art Show and Awards Ceremony, the President’s Reception, the IAEA Scholarship Raffle and Gently Used Books and Media Sale Table, we will again have a full offering of workshops and presentations, both on-site at the Hilton and off-site at a variety of locations. The Vendors’ Hall was very popular in 2009 with almost 30 exhibitors represented, and our vendors are looking forward to seeing you back in 2010. Plan now to submit your art work for the 2010 Electronic Gallery Show and enter your student work in the 2010 Student Art Show and YAM poster contest. As usual, your conference registration includes two continental breakfasts, two receptions and lunch on Friday and Saturday.

We are pleased to announce that we have secured nationally known illustrator and writer, Mike Venezia, to be our keynote speaker for Friday, November 5. Mike is well known for his series of books, including the “Getting to Know the World’s Greatest Artists” collection. Mike will be sharing his unique approach to exploring the visual arts through a fresh take on famous artists throughout history. The Artists Series has been published in five foreign languages and has sold over 4 million copies. Mike will sign copies of his books following the luncheon presentation on Friday, and will have copies available for purchase. (Image below)

If you wish to help as a volunteer for the 2010 conference, please contact Becky or Pat, the IAEA conference co-chairs. We look forward to seeing you at the Hilton in November!

National Conference Information

"The NAEA annual convention is to provide substantive professional development services that include the advancement of knowledge in all sessions, events, and activities for the purpose of improving visual arts instruction in American schools. As such, it is the world's largest art education convention.

The 5-day convention includes over 850 participatory workshops, panels, seminars for job-alike groups . . . research reports, discussions, exhibits, and tours . . . keynote addresses by world-acclaimed educators, artists, researchers, and scholars . . . a once-a-year opportunity to meet in a major American city and meet colleagues from all over the world.

Each year some 140 to 200 exhibitor booths displaying the latest art textbooks, high-tech software, prints, slides, curriculum materials, equipment, and programs, as well as the latest studio and art history media are made available for examination and review to art educator delegates. It is a professional development opportunity to update yourself on the vista of state-of-the-art materials to advance visual art instruction in your program.

All NAEA sessions and events are 100% content-oriented and substantively based. There are no NAEA non-content functions such as golf, sight-seeing, shopping tours and the like. Sessions are scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. every day."
