Awards
The IAEA Awards Program is intended to recognize art educators who are committed and dedicated to their students and the art education profession. This program, which recognizes excellence in individuals and programs, helps provide for the development of quality art education throughout the state of Illinois.

Criteria: General
- Significant contribution within an award category.
- Outstanding record of general professional achievement.
- Continuing record of contributions to art education in Illinois.
- Current active membership in IAEA.
- To be considered for a national award, NAEA membership is required. National nomination is optional.
Criteria: Specific
Award categories 1-7.
- Outstanding record of success as an art educator from colleagues, administrators, students, and community.
- Outstanding ongoing record of general professional achievement, continued education, studio accomplishments/exhibitions, publications, service to individual school program and school district, service to community, and service to IAEA.
- Recognized as a leader.
Illinois Museum Art Educator of the Year
- Outstanding record of successful collaborative efforts as a museum art educator from colleagues, administrators, teachers and students, and community.
- Outstanding record of general professional achievement, continued education, studio accomplishments, publications, service to individual school programs and school districts, service to community, and service to IAEA.
Illinois Art Education Program of the Year
- Evidence of an exemplary comprehensive art program from colleagues, administration, district, students, and community.
- Outstanding program components, curriculum design, course offerings, other school sponsored art activities (e.g., art club, National Art Honor Society), professional achievement of department members, inter/intra school exhibition, individual student or staff recognition/awards, involvement in total school program, service to community, and service in IAEA.
- Membership in IAEA by all art educators within the program.
Distinguished Service in IAEA
Exemplary contributions of time and effort to IAEA.
Distinguished Service to the Profession of Art Education
Outstanding contribution to the field of art education; record of service to school, district, and community, record of previous awards, honors, and record of publications.
Distinguished Service to Art Education (outside of the profession)
Exemplary support and advocacy for art education.

Scholarships
IAEA Graduate Student Scholarship
OBJECTIVE:
It is the intent of the IAEA to recognize outstanding scholastic and professional achievement in the Visual Arts and Art Education, and to encourage continued professional excellence in art education in our schools.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTING AWARD RECIPIENTS:
The recipient is an Illinois resident and a declared full time (9 or more semester hours) graduate art or supervision student enrolled in an institution of higher learning in Illinois.
The recipient holds active membership in the Illinois Art Education Association during the year of application and during the year the scholarship is in effect.
The recipient must continue educational course work during the 12 month period following the award.
The recipient must have a grade point average in their graduate work of at least a 3.5.
The recipient will submit the required application form and supporting materials to the IAEA Vice President, by the postmarked the deadline.
CANDIDATE OBLIGATIONS:
Submit copies of
- Completed application form and official grade transcripts.
- One page personal statement describing graduate program and goals.
- Two letters of recommendation documenting professional competency.
- Slide portfolio containing no more than 15 slides representing a variety of media both 2D and 3D or evidence of written scholarship, of no more than 10 pages (longer works may represented by abstracts)
All materials must be clearly labeled and carefully packaged. The deadline and all guidelines must be adhered to or the candidate will be disqualified.
You may reapply for this scholarship.
AWARD PROCEDURE:
The $1000 stipend will be placed on deposit with the bursar of the educational institution of the award recipient. The stipend will be effective for a 12 month period beginning January 2 of the year following the award. The stipend will be used for tuition and art materials. Any remaining funds will be dispersed to the recipient for additional educational expenses.
AWARD RECIPIENT OBLIGATIONS:
The recipient is expected to remain actively involved with the IAEA, a member for 2 years and will apply to make a presentation at the annual IAEA Conference following the granting of the award.
SCORING AWARD OF THE SCHOLARSHIP WILL BE BASED ON THE FOLLOWING:
- IAEA service/activities
- volunteer or paid service as an art teacher (observations and student teaching do not apply)
- each art exhibition (university, local, state, national; juried and non-juried)
- slides
- recommendations
- personal statement

IAEA 2008 Undergraduate Student
Scholarship Award
Objective:
It is the intent of the Illinois Art Education Association to recognize outstanding scholastic achievement in the Visual Arts and Art Education, and to support continued professional excellence in art education in the State of Illinois schools.
Criteria for Selection:
- The recipient is an Illinois resident and a declared undergraduate art education major enrolled in an institute of higher education in Illinois.
- The recipient holds active membership in the Illinois Art Education Association during the year of application and during the year the scholarship is in effect.
- The recipient must continue education for the spring semester following the granting of the award.
- The recipient has established a grade point average of at least B in art education and all other courses required of an art education major.
- The recipient will submit required application form and supporting material to the IAEA by the deadline.
Candidate Obligations:
Submit 1 each of the following materials:
- Completed application form.
- Grade transcripts.
- One page personal statement describing art education philosophy and goals. Two letters of recommendation documenting professional competency.
- Slide portfolio containing no more than 15 slides representing a variety of media both 2D and 3D.
- An inventory list which contains title of work, media, and size.
- A stamped self-addressed envelope so that all materials may be returned
- Summary of IAEA conference presentation.
All materials must be clearly labeled and carefully packaged. Materials not received by the deadline will not be eligible for consideration.
Award Procedure:
The $1,000 stipend will be placed on deposit with the bursar of the educational institution of the award recipient. The stipend will be effective during the semester following the award presentation. The award is usually announced at the annual IAEA Conference, making the stipend available the semester starting after January 2 of the following year. The stipend will be used for tuition, fees and art materials. Any remaining funds will be disbursed to the recipient.
Award Recipient Obligations:
The recipient will make a presentation (topic of their choice) during the annual IAEA Conference following the granting of the award. The recipient is expected to remain actively involved with the IAEA as member for two years following the award.
Scoring Award of the Scholarship will be based on the following:

IAEA Undergraduate Student Scholarship Nomination

Illinois Art Education Association 2008 Professional Development Grants:
- assist regular or retired members participating in professional development activities.
- are awarded in increments of $100.00, up to, but not to exceed, $500.00.
- are intended to offset cost of registration or workshop/seminar fees & other related expenses related to the workshop; not to be used to obtain college or university credit or to attend IAEA/NAEA conferences or for general travel.
- are available for activities which occur during the membership year, October 1st – September 30th.
- applications must be submitted by a postmarked date of May 1, 2008. (Postmarks after May 1st will be invalid.)
- recipients will be notified by August 15, 2008 and checks will be dispersed by October 1, 2008.
Grant Application Requirements:
- a published description of the activity and a photocopy of the completed registration form for the activity
- an itemized list of related expenses pertaining to the activity
- a photocopy of your current membership card (if you can’t locate your card contact Colette Rinn, Membership Coordinator, (815) 462-2359.)
- Also include your name address, home/work phone # school name and Address, e-mail address (see below)
- Include a summary of how the activity will contribute to your professional growth (limit to one page)
Requirements for recipients of Grants:
- submit a written article with visuals to the IAEA Newsletter and /
- present a workshop at the IAEA Conference.
- reimbursement will be given based on confirmation of attendance in the activity and submitted receipts.
