SUMMARY:Webinar: Critical Skills for Human-Centered Designers
DESCRIPTION:Date: October 21st\, 2021 7:00 PM (Central Time)\n\n1PD Credit available\n\n\nDescription:\nAgncy is a human-centered design firm focused on design for equity. In this presentation\, we will share how human-centered design methods and processes are being adapted and interrogated in contemporary equity design work. We’ll provide case studies that reflect how some core designer mindsets are being pushed by the demands of justice-driven work. We’ll then interpret this through the lens of the specific skill set that designers need to thrive and grow in these practices. We’ll make connections to the Illinois Art Standards to contextualize how skills come to life in the professional design environment. And we’ll discuss how we question some traditional design skills in the type of equity work that we do at Agncy.\n\n  \nMembers and non-members are welcome to join us!\nIf you would like to earn Illinois PD hours for this webinar\, please choose the PD option. \nWebinar Registration without PD hours (Open to All!)\nWebinar Registration with PD Hours (Members only)

SUMMARY:Webinar: Recognizing and Countering Dominant Narratives in Art Education
DESCRIPTION:This activity will provide art teachers with knowledge and resources to build meaningful curriculum that cultivates opposition to racism\, misogyny\, ableism\, and hatred of LGBTQIA+ people. In this session\, participants will engage with a variety of artworks and images through the lens of the following questions: – Who is represented in this image? – How are they represented? – What does this image communicate? – How are students influenced by images like this? – What narratives are omitted or falsified?\nAfter the analyses\, participants will be provided with artworks\, images\, and resources to counter dominant ideologies perpetuated by these images. After the presentation\, participants will have an opportunity to work in small groups to analyze an artwork together (images will be provided) using the questions above and then seek counter-visual resources to use in their classrooms. We will end the session with a group reflection and sharing of resources.\n\n1.5 PD Hours available\nRegister for Recognizing and Countering Dominant Narratives in Art Education Webinar!\nMembers and non-members are welcome to join us!\nIf you would like to earn Illinois PD hours for this webinar\, please choose the PD option.\nWebinar Registration without PD hours (Open to All!)\nWebinar Registration with PD Hours (Members only)

SUMMARY:Webinar: A Conceptual Artist in Every School
DESCRIPTION:A Conceptual Artist in Every School \nREGISTER HERE \nSaturday\, September 4th \n11:00 am CST \nPresenter: Jorge Lucero \n1 Professional Development Hour Available \nPre-registration Required \nThe idea is simple\, what if there was a conceptual artist in every school? Whoever takes on the position of conceptual artist at their school wouldn’t necessarily have to be the art teacher. It would be whichever teacher thought (or knew) that they could test the pliability of their school as a place where everything–from community to curriculum–was rethought as a creative practice. For this presentation\, I will first talk about what this means and where the idea comes from. I will then talk/discuss the possibilities that are already present in schools. \n
