Understanding the language of assessment will help you effectively communicate with your administrators and school community about the important learning that happens in the art room and how it is best measured. Learn to advocate for your students, your discipline, and your department when you are expected to demonstrate student growth data. Learn about valid performance-based assessments, and how they can be implemented in the art and design room at all levels and in all classes.
Deborah Filbin has taught high school art for 21 years. She currently teaches at Bloom High School in Chicago Heights. She earned her Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Fine Arts from Northern Illinois University in 1992. She is currently a Doctoral Candidate at NIU, and has presented at conferences in the state, nationally, and internationally on a variety of topics including assessment in the visual arts. In addition to leading her district in the movement to implement all performance-based assessments in all art classes, she is the proud recipient of two national teaching awards.  [/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][/vc_accordion][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
