    About CPS: The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has set ambitious goals to ensure that every student in every neighborhood will be engaged in a rigorous, well-rounded instructional program and will graduate prepared for success in college, career and life.

    Position Summary: Arts Education Specialist is responsible for coordinating Department of Arts Education student programs and district-wide curriculum resources for teachers and administrators.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities of Position:

    •Management of large, extracurricular student programs in the performing and visual arts including music festivals, All-City Performing Arts, and visual art exhibitions
    •Contribute to professional learning opportunities and curriculum resources for principals and educators in research-based best practices in arts education
    •Directing the development, writing and editing of the district’s content-specific REACH performance tasks with the support of teachers
    •Developing and publishing content for the Department of Arts Education’s media outlets and communication platforms (wordpress website, twitter, press releases, etc.)
    •Maintaining the district’s inventory of instructional materials for the arts

    Other Essential Duties Duties include:

    •Assist Arts Education Manager with developing, coordinating, and implementing curriculum resources for teachers and administrators
    •Assist Arts Education Manager with budgeting and spending for student programs
    •Assisting Professional Learning Manager with planning and implementation of district-wide professional learning for teachers and principals, as well as working with smaller cohorts of teachers engaging sustained/intensive Professional Learning.
    •Track Key Performance Indicators for internal department evaluation
    •Contribute editing and drafting of bi-annual REACH performance tasks
    •Contribute to Department of Arts strategic planning, performance management reporting to upper management
    •Contribute to interdepartmental working groups within the Office of Teaching and Learning
    •Contribute to work lead by Ingenuity Incorporated including the work of interorganizational panels, attending partner summits and institutes, presenting at meetings.
    •Present at Network administrator meetings

    Qualifications:

    •Type of Education Required: Graduation from an accredited college or university with at least a Bachelors’ in Arts and/or Education or related field. Illinois Teaching Certificate and/or endorsement(s) in the visual arts preferred
    •Ability to provide discipline-specific expertise in dance, theatre or visual arts
    •5 or more years of professional experience in working in an administrative capacity in performing arts education or as a performing arts educator
    •Bilingual or Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred
    •Thorough knowledge of performing arts education and assessment practices
    •Ability to work directly with students, teachers and principals in an administrative capacity, and to serve as the liaison between the CPS Department of Arts Education and schools/parents
    •An unwavering belief that all students can achieve at high levels
    •A firm understanding of CPS policies and Student Code of Conduct is desired
    •Working knowledge of pedagogical best practices including: Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, the Danielson Framework for Teaching and Learning, Understanding by Design, Depth of Knowledge, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Illinois Arts Learning Standards (or National Core Arts Standards) ISTE standards, CCSS.
    •Strong communication skills (speaking, listening, and writing)
    •Microsoft Office suite with fluency
    •Google Applications workflow experience is needed
    •Ability to design and manage social media interfaces (WordPress, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, etc.)
    •Basic design/photography, video and or web content management skills preferred
