Art education has the potential to teach a diverse set of skills that give students the ability to “see new patterns, how to learn from mistakes, and how to envision solutions” (Hetland, Winner, Veeneema, Sheridan, 2013). These are skills that students need in all aspects of their lives and can be taught in the art room. This presentation will focus on the 8 Habits of Mind, why they (along with art) are important to every student’s education, and how to make sure they are integrated into your lessons.

Putting the AR in Art. Augmented Reality Made Easy!
” color=”grey-lite”][vc_column_text]
Presenters: Tricia Fuglestad and Theresa McGee
Want to engage your students and impress your colleagues? Bring the magic of augmented reality to your classroom with just a few simple steps! Need a way to link student physical art to their digital art extensions? Similar to the way a mobile device scans a QR code and links to a website, Augmented Reality alters the natural environment when viewed through a mobile device. Make learning more engaging for your students, present student work in a unique format, demonstrate new techniques, and manage your classroom. Learn tips and tricks from veteran Augmented Reality teachers who have used this amazing tool in and out of their classrooms. Applicable for all teaching levels K-12
Tricia Fuglestad, K-5 art teacher from Dryden Elementary School in Arlington Heights, IL has a masters in K-12 technology integration and has been successfully integrating iPads into instruction and art production for many years. Her goal in using iPads is to expand the curriculum, give students an opportunity to explore new media, and find transformative ways for students to demonstrate learning dynamically.
Theresa McGee, 6-8 art teacher from Hinsdale Middle School, IAEA Past President and current webinar coordinator, has been teaching using Augmented reality since 2012. Theresa works to integrate technolgy into curriculum while still using traditional art materials.

Discover new strategies to help keep all of your students engaged throughout the entire class period, even when they are finished with their assignments. Finding ways to keep your students not only occupied but engaged in the art-making process for the entirety of your class period can be a daunting task. But equipping yourself with a variety of resources and routines to address this issue can have a lasting impact on the flow of your classroom and the development of your students’ artistic abilities and habits.

Read webinar description and bio for Learning Through Creative Problems in Art Education
Chris Grodowski” color=”grey-lite”][vc_column_text]
While problem-based learning is a hot commodity in education, helping students learn through problems is not new to arts education. Developing the creativity skills of students through problems is a longstanding feature of art, design, and media education. But what exactly are the problems of that visual creatives solve? How can this be applied to our classrooms? This webinar outlines the structures and shapes of creative problems; it will share how different types of problems help students in different ways. Examples from art, design, and media professionals applied for middle-level students will be provided.
Chris Grodoski is a Middle-Level Art and Design educator at Franklin Middle School in Wheaton, Illinois for the past decade. His professional experiences include being an all-subject, 7th and 8th-grade classroom teacher in high poverty, urban contexts, H earned a Ph.D. in Art Education from Northern Illinois University with additional studies in cognitive psychology and education policy. Chris has served the National Art Education Association (NAEA) as a Research Commissioner. In this role, he represented middle-level art educators. Chris was also the Founding Chair and is now Past Chair, NAEA Data Visualization Research Working Group. Here in Illinois, Chris served the Illinois Art Education Association as a Board Member in the Advocacy Advisor position. This work included organizing statewide advocacy days, the publication of the Research Update, and the hosting of Policy Roundtables with arts, nonprofit, and legislative leaders. Chris’s publication record includes book chapters and peer-reviewed research and practitioner journals. His publications focus on visual creativity, learning, human development, technology, and education policy; he is currently co-editing a book on Data Visualization.

Collagraph Intaglio Printing
Frank Bush” color=”grey-lite”][vc_column_text]
This workshop presentation shared ideas and techniques that can be used with an intaglio printing press using cardboard and water-based materials instead of copper or zinc plates. This technique is valuable to learn intaglio printmaking processes in public schools who do not have the resources for traditional materials or facilities to accommodate acids for etching metal plates. Lessons can be adapted for multiple age levels.
Frank Bush has been teaching art at Henry-Senachwine since 2006. Beyond teaching, I also have a passion for travel and being a Life-Long-Learner.
